If you were at Southampton general today, you may have passed a stick and handbag clutching hobbling 34 yr old woman, howling intermittently with hot tears rolling down her pained face.
the owner of this complexion is a stupid ninny who should have rung up patient transport or asked for some assistance from another source instead of sending her PA out with Bernie to do "wiggle waggle" because she did not want her 2 yr old to miss out on life.
the disabled car park is much much much much MUCH further than it should be from the OT dept. this memory perception of close proximity is addled by blonde ditzy brain who still thinks she can walk with relative ease.
it took this ninny 20 mins to hobble and rest every 3 steps down the slope that takes evryone else 3 mins tops. then she negotiated the workmens vans where they are rebuilding the hospital dept and sat on the little post at the end. then she hobbled in total agony to the OT dept to be told it was right at the other end of the corridor. sat there for 15 mins only to be called into the treatment rm at the other end.....
after "good" appointment with helpful OT- ninny nella almost manage intelligent thought and asked the reception staff for the quicker route to the disabled car park. They directed Ninny Nella down a long dark corridor with no seats, one lift, past burger king then out the main doors to the car parking areas.
within 10 steps there was a spontaneous occular leakage. Ninny leant hopelessly against the side of the corridor red faced. when someone asked if she was ok- she said "fine"... then hobbled hopefully towards the lifts.
got in the lift. howled uncontrollably in the lift (no seat) and the people in the lift wished her luck and she left and got to burger king and sat down, dried her tears, and made an aim for WHSmith (this is about 20 paces away). Ninny started out again. She cried and cried the whole way and sat again.
then she got to the main entrance and sat on the bike bars, leant on the wall ANYTHING but the pain didnt stop, nearly killed herself getting a tenner out of her purse for the parking (it is £3.50) and decided to leave the change as there is no way she was going to manage to get down to the change chute.
now unable to move a step she dragged her feet sitting and then sliding her bottom along the wall of the disabled ramp, punting with her funky arthur walking stick and lugging her bag with her spare hand to the side. She sat on the end for a few minutes before facing the challenge of the final 10 steps to car. Unable to control the crying at all now- brandishing the ticket in her teeth, bag hooked round her neck like a demented mountain rescue dog weilding walking stick purposefully.
lady in car park asked if Ninny was ok and Ninny wailed and cried and nice lady explained she understood the word pain and helped her hobble the last 3 steps.
Ninny then cried and sobbed all the way home.
Ninny Nella has learnt important lesson the VERY hard way.
much love

Oh Jenni!!! I was of the same mind, should I be laughing with you or crying with you. I know you wanted to give Bernice her time for fun, and I so admire you for that, cos you are a wonderful mum. But you are important too, I know you already know that, and will make sure you get help next time. I hope youre resting now, and being waited on by Richard, and maybe even Michael !!??? Glad the appt was good at least, so sorry for your pain x x x lots of (((((hugs))))))) BARBARA

Hello Jenni, It's srange how in your head you think you are wonder woman. You would think after all these years you would know better which just goes to show that you won't be beaten. If you can recover after what happened today you could make a fortune writing a book on the terrible things that happen to you. I'm even guilty sometimes of thinking that I have no problem of doing everything that I used to do and it can get you into trouble as you well know. I hope your recovery goes well. x

Ninny has reverted to normal "sensible" (well some of the time ) status and used POWER CHAIR to escape the confines of the house and go to the park with Bernie and her PA. The park is handily next to the polling station .
Walking even a few short steps is a huge task and so furniture walking is the order of the day inside.
thanks for your kind support and comments re sense of humour- its a bit caustic sometimes, and subjects that are hardest to talk about benefit from a little comedic twist to make them more palatable.
much love

Jenni
When reading your post I felt every step you took with considerable affinity. Do we ever accept our limited lives once we are diagnosed with RA - I doubt it. Good on you for making the effort even though it caused you considerable emotional and physical pain.
Burger King at a hospital??? I knew the NHS had gone down hill but even I know the perils of entering such an establishment and I love my food. I suppose it is some consolation prize for having to attend such an awful institution in the first place.
I'm glad you managed to get out today to the park.
Take care
Jackie xx

Glad you still getting out, and the chair must be a brilliant hlep for you. Liz, Guys hospital has a MacDonalds in the entrance!!! As for St. Thomas, it has a marks and spencer food shop, big coffe shop, clothes shop, w h smith and lots of other eating places. They are not even like hospitals anymore until you get into the departments!!!size=7][/size] BARBARA

That sounds AWFUL, lovely Jenni. Hope you are feeling tons better today and have managed to rest.
I've had a thought - DON'T collapse with the shock - BUT if your circumstances change you can swap your mobility car before the end of the period of the contract. I would think that if you had your new car, there would be no prob with appointments.
I know about this because I had to change my car after the hip was replaced. The old car was too low and would have compromised my new hip. Motability were brilliant and sorted it out. Maybe you should think about giving them a ring and talking things through with them? You certainly can't go through that nonsense again.
Much love Jeanxxxxx
